This course has process-led creativity over outcome at its core as a way of inviting curiosity to guide us towards noticing our natural environment and our place in it. Fill your handmade garden sketchbooks through gentle and close observation under Mandeep’s guidance. We’ll gather useful information, develop our own mark-making vocabulary, and create our own individual symbols of emotional connection using a variety of materials to capture the gardens, plants and colours. We’ll begin by making a series of handmade sketchbooks in different formats and papers in preparation for our visual collecting. Mandeep will then work with you, moving around the different garden areas to observe and record them over the course of the day through short observational exercises to help settle into our surroundings and gently reveal the layers of colours, textures and block shapes. From your point of interests, we will discuss how to record useful information in your sketchbooks to inform and guide your work - placed in memory and emotional connection. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN-US;\" lang=\"EN-US\"\u003eThe second day will be based at Leicester Print Workshop. Here, we will take our sketches and learn how to develop them into print studies by either extracting information or adding to them through linocut printmaking. Working from our garden block shapes, we will move them towards layering marks, colours and textures with a process-led approach through playful experimentation.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"MsoNormal\"\u003e\u003cspan style=\"mso-ansi-language: EN-US;\" lang=\"EN-US\"\u003eBy the end of the course you will leave with a mini library of filled sketchbooks, and a series of sketches and print studies.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003eAbout the Tutor\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHer work draws inspiration from her childhood in Kenya and migrating to England in her early teens. Mandeep’s fascination with exploring how people and the landscape are in an interconnected exchange are reflected through colour and light play. Her current body of work examines the parallels in narrative between plant and human movement, as prints and sketches which often incorporate vivid colour palettes to reflect inner\/outer connection as glowing light and luminosity. Mandeep teaches printmaking and bookmaking workshops and exhibits nationally and is a member of Leicester Print Workshop and ArtCan.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003eLeicester Print Workshop \u003cbr\u003e\n\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eLeicester Print Workshop is the regional development centre for printmaking.
